The Police in Benue State on Tuesday paraded 29 suspects for their alleged involvement in various crimes including robbery, homicide and kidnapping across the state.
State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, who paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Makurdi before newsmen said that the arrest was part of its ongoing renewed efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
Makama also said that the arrests were made possible by the combined efforts of the state’s Security Joint Task Force and the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
Police recovered two AK47 rifles, two locally made single barrel pistols, one locally made revolver pistol, three magazines, one military camouflage trouser, 44 mobile phones, 10 sim cards, six memory cards, four jack knives, a bag containing charms, a motorcycle and a Toyota Rav 4.
A suspect, Monday Yonguigba, alleged to have kidnapped a staff of the state’s owned Radio Benue, Yuadoo Toragbidye sometime earlier this year confessed to robbery but denied involvement in the kidnapping.
Yonguigba who was picked by SARS alongside Mvendaga Abu, Terver Tse and Kathrine Ukolo, wife of their alleged kingpin, one Isaac Nenge, said to now be at large told Daily Trust that he tried kidnapping once but was unsuccessful so he resorted to robbery since 2013, operating between Aliade and Otukpo area of the state.
The police commissioner on his part assured members of the public that the command remains resolute in the discharge of its duties as he urged residents to report any suspicious movement to relevant authorities.
Makama said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation into their matters are concluded.
