Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, has appealed to civil servants in the state to exercise patience as arrangements were underway to clear the salary arrears owed them.
Speaking on monday, through his Special Adviser on Assembly matters, Hon. Moses Oduh, in a town hall meeting with stakeholders at Otukpa, Ogbadibo LGA, the governor promised to offset the outstanding salaries of civil servants in the state, before December 2017.
On his part, the State Chairman of All Progressive Congress, Comrade Abba Yaro, appealed to civil servants to exercise patience as government, he said, would fight every iota of corruption that culminated into the present hardship.
The Ad’Ogbadibo, Prince Agbo Enenche, former Chief Medical Director of federal medical centre, Makurdi, Dr. Mattias Oyigeya and Mr. Emmanuel Abbah, in their remarks, pleaded with the civil servants to be patient, emphasising that strike would not be the best option in tackling the present situation.
In their separate reactions, the Chairman of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Sunday Ajuwa, the Chairman of National Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sule Ekele and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) counterpart, Mr Ujah Adeyi, appealed to the State government to expedite action in paying up arrears of salaries, in order to restore hope and confidence to the entire people of the state.
