Police in Benue State yesterday paraded an armed robbery suspect who was apprehended by passengers after he dispossessed them of their valuables.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for the Benue State command, Moses Joel Yamu, said Terngu Nabe and two others now at large intercepted the passengers on Wednesday night along Abua road in Buruku Local Government Area.
Yamu said the three robbers had successfully robbed the passengers when one of the victims summoned courage and grabbed Nabe from behind.
He said at that point the other two suspects fled into the bush while all the occupants of the vehicle held onto Nabe until the police arrived. Nabe in an interview with Daily Trust confessed committing the crime, saying it was his first time after turning down several invitations from his brother to join their gang.
Nabe, 30, dressed in military camouflage, said on that night, three of them went to block the highway and intercepted the commercial vehicle which was travelling toward Gboko.
He said his two other accomplices robbed the passengers of their money, handsets and other valuable items but that it was when he joined them to remove cash from a particular passenger’s pocket that the victim held him from behind. He claimed to be a rice trader and a father of five children.
