Four gunmen on Friday stormed the home of a former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Stephen Tsav.
A source told reveals that the gunmen, in a Volkswagen Golf, arrived Tsav’s North Bank home in the Makurdi metropolis with AK47 guns.
However, the source said Tsav’s son spotted the gunmen after they had surrounded the house and raised the alarm, which drew the attention of neighbours.
Two of the gunmen were said to have escaped while the other two were apprehended and taken to the police station.
The source said, “The gunmen surrounded the house, but unknown to them, the speaker’s son had sighted them and raised the alarm.
“Two of the invaders escaped in the car while the other two were arrested and taken to police station at North Bank. The case has been transferred to the state command.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Omololu Bishi, confirmed that two men – Joseph Wagh and Terwase Igba – were arrested around Tsav’s house and were being interrogated.
Bishi, who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Anene Catherine, ruled out assassination as the motive behind the suspects’ action but added that the actual motive had yet to be established.
