Akume, Orubibi, Lawani Pick Benue APC Senatorial Tickets

A former Minority Leader of the Senate, George Akume, has emerged the candidate for the North West senatorial district of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State.

Akume emerged unopposed with affirmative votes from the party delegates from the senatorial district at the primary held at Precious hotel, Makurdi on Wednesday.

Akume would be slugging it out with the Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate, Orker Jev, in the 2019 elections.

The former governor commended the delegates for finding him worthy and also appreciated the people of the state for the show of support accorded him.

Similarly, a former Chairperson of Benue Internal Revenue Service, Mrs Mimi Orubibi, picked the APC senatorial ticket for the North East senatorial district.

The former tax boss defeated other aspirants to emerge the party’s candidate in the senatorial district where she would engage the PDP senatorial candidate and a former Governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, in the 2019 elections.

In the same vein, a former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Steven Lawani, on Wednesday, picked the APC ticket for the Benue South Senatorial District.

In the primary held in Otukpo, Lawani defeated Daniel Onjeh and another aspirant.

Lawani polled 1,321 votes to defeat Daniel Onjeh who scored 1,059 and Egboja who polled 21 votes.

The opposition PDP in the Benue South was expected to hold the primary on Thursday.

The PDP zonal primary earlier scheduled to hold on Tuesday in Otukpo was postponed due to unresolved issues and had been rescheduled for Thursday in Makurdi.
