Benue Commissioner Of Police Vow To Ensure Enforcement Of Anti-Open Grazing Law

Benue State Police Commissioner, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, has pledged the Command’s commitment to ensure enforcement of the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition Law, which came into effect last November 1

He said the command was already working to ensure that the law was respected by every resident in all parts of state. Owoseni spoke, yesterday, when he visited and also provided free medical outreach to victims of herdsmen crisis in the state, housed at the internally-displaced persons, IDPs, camps situated at Abagena Agan in Makurdi, LGEA Primary School, Daudu, and UN Shelter also in Daudu, Guma Local Government Area of the state. The Police boss was reacting to the statement by one of the inmates that security agencies were not interested in enforcing the state’s grazing law, but had conspired and were aiding the takeover of Benue land by herdsmen. He said:

“We, the security agencies; Police, Navy, Army, Air Force and other sister security agencies have taken notes of areas that the Fulani have come back to, to see how we can tackle it and bring the situation under control. “Your fear is when you return home, the herds-men will come and attack you. But I can assure you that nothing like that will happen, because we have a team of trained mobile policemen that will provide you security.”
