The Police in Benue State have arrested nine young people on suspicion of cultism in Adoka district of Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.
State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, who paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Makurdi said some of them have confessed to belonging to the Red Aye cult group.
Makama explained that acting on a tip off, the policemen on patrol at Aune-Adoka arrested the suspected persons while they were allegedly conducting initiation rituals.
The suspects included; Adah Paul, Adakole Udehi, Genesis Adah, Matthew Alechenu, Adakole Adah, Faith Ohepo, Onyemowo Okoh, Onyeche Ameh and Ojoma Acheneje.
Makama added that all the suspects would be charged to court as soon as discreet investigation was concluded while he assured people of the state of the command’s commitment to reduce crime to its barest minimum.
One of the suspects, a senior secondary school, SSII, Ojoma Acheneje, 16, in an interview with Daily Trust admitted being a cultist and belonging to the Red Aye, adding however that she was forced to join the group.
