Makurdi- Benue women Wednesday declared their support for the resolve of Governor Samuel Ortom to dump the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying that the decision was in the best interest of the generality of the people of the state.
They also commended the Governor for demonstrating uncommon leadership qualities in the face of daunting economic and security challenges in the past three years and pledged their total support for his re-election bid in 2019.
The women who made the pledge when they received the Governor at Fiidi Ward in Makurdi local government area under the auspices of ‘Elegant Women’ said they were willing to follow Governor Ortom to any political party when he was leaving the APC.
According to their spokesperson, Mrs. Ann Ityavkase “a governor who does not have the interest of his people at heart would have betrayed their trust as a result of the ongoing persecution and intimidation Governor Ortom has encountered in the hands of enemies of the state.
“For demonstrating that uncommon courage, we promise to mobilize women in the 23 local government areas of the state to ensure your victory in next year’s election.” Responding, Governor Ortom who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Terver Akase assured that the gesture of the women would encourage him to provide quality leadership and do more for the state.
“Women would remain strategic in all policies and programmes of this administration as already seen in the high number of political offices currently being occupied by women in the state,” he said.
