Election 2019: Fear Of Defeat Pushing Benue APC To Accuse Ortom – Akase

Chief press secretary to Benue state governor, Mr Terver Akase says the fear of impending defeat at the polls is pushing the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rain baseless accusations on his principal.

Akase was on Thursday, February 21, reacting to comments credited to APC’s House of Representatives candidate for Makurdi -Guma constituency, Mr. Terhide Utaan, who alleged that Governor Ortom was sponsoring militia to kill Benue people. The governor’s aide said such comment was not befitting of a politician seeking to represent a people many of who have lost their lives to herdsmen attacks.

Akase said Utaan lacked the moral justification to accuse the governor whose administration signed the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law to protect Benue people. He said Utaan’s verbal attack on Governor Ortom is also to please the federal government to play down his investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He stressed that if anyone is to be accused of herdsmen killings, it should be the APC administration that has failed woefully to protect the people of Benue against herders’ attacks. Akase further said the APC National Assembly candidate needed to explain to Benue people where he had been when his community was attacked and what constituted his reaction then, otherwise, he would be taken for speaking from both sides of his mouth.

He described Utaan’s comment as unpatriotic, insensitive and capable of disrupting the general election. Governor Ortom recently commiserated with the APC in the state over the murder of the party’s chairman in Ohimini local government area, Mr Boniface Okloho.
