Kano Varsity Set For E-examination, As Gov. Ortom Probes Benue Varsity’s Wage Bill…

Kano State University of Science and Technology, KUST, Wudil, has announced its readiness to begin computer-based examination.

This is even as Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has inaugurated a seven-man visitation panel to Benue State University to probe staff strength and actual wage bill of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor of Kano State University, Professor Shehu Musa, told reporters during a valedictory speech that the new innovation was in tandem with his vision to integrate the university into an academic centre of excellence with mutual linkages and collaboration with foreign and national institutions.

He said with over 2,800 new computers at the ICT centre constructed by the Nigerian Communications Commission, the university was ICT compliant.

He said the university, under his leadership, has expanded students’ enrollment from 8,000 in the last four years to 15,738, with 5,000 admission quota from the previous 1,000. on Benue Varsity probe On the Benue State University probe, Governor Ortom, who was represented at the inauguration by his Deputy and Chairman, Salaries Verification Committee, Mr. Benson Abounu, said government had been working to establish the true wage bill, to enable it pay salaries as and when due.

The panel, which has three weeks to submit its report, has Professor Emmanuel Apedzan, Professor Alamveabee Idyorough, Timothy Dim, Raphael Ogah, Kukase Garuba as members, while Mr. Bem Amenger serves as Secretary.

Governor Ortom said: “We are making progress in that direction, which will ensure that the issue of backlog of unpaid salaries is put to rest in no distant time.”

The governor directed the panel to carry out an audit of the university’s payroll in the last three years, to ascertain the actual burden, the current expenditure liabilities and suggest any sustainable measure to ensure timely payment of salaries.
