The annual MARK d BALL BASKETBALL tournament which holds between the 26th to 31st December of every year in Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria has kicked off.
The Mark d ball 2017 tournament is taking place at a new basketball arena located at Akpegede, Otukpo, the ancestral home of the Distinguished Senator. The new MARK d BALL Arena promises bigger space and a safe and exciting environment. Akpegede is also home to St. Mark Golf and Country Club.
The tournament, usually held in the last month of December, was put off last year following a court injunction by one Edwin Owoicho, a purported trustee of the Idoma Private Trust, that prevented the organisers from gaining assess to the traditional Otukpo Club.
The 2017 Mark d ball tournament kicked off last night with Nigerian reggae singer Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, thrilled the audience at #MarkDBall2017 to the single “Send Down the Rain” from his 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience.
Speaking after Majek Fashek’s performance was Nigeria’s immediate Senate President, Senator David Mark, who said “Majek Fashek’s performance reminded me of my days as a young man”.
The tournament is solely promoted by Senator David Mark, through the Mark Sports Foundation, to unify the rural community of Otukpo, by incorporating some of the country’s most exciting basketball players and musical acts.
The invitational tournament will attract male and female teams nation wide. The teams will play group round robin matches up to the knock-out stages. The mark d ball children clinic will now accommodate up to 1,000 Children compared to the 400 kids that were accommodated in Mark d ball 2016.
