Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers were said to have invaded Tor Donga in Benue State, killing three persons and injuring one soldier.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened late on Monday at Tor Donga town in Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen rode on a motorcycle to the filling station and ordered everybody to lie face-down and they carted away monies and valuables from the victims.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident described the gunmen as suspected robbers.
He added that two persons were killed in the incident.
Yamu further said that the robbery gang had ordered everyone to lie on the bare floor while their illicit operation lasted. He added that one of the victims had raised his head while the operation was on, causing the robbers to shoot him.
The police spokesman said that the man died on his way to the hospital, alongside another civilian who was shot dead by the robbers in the course of the operation.
Yamu, however, explained that the wounded soldier who was part of a military special squad stationed in the area where the robbery took place only responded to a distress call from the victims.
