Why Chelsea Have Not Appointed Sarri As manager Or Sacked Conte

It was news that many Chelsea fans were expecting to hear as soon as the season finished with Antonio Conte set to be replaced by former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri.

However, more than a week has gone by since the Blues clinched the FA Cup with the 1-0 victory over Manchester United and Conte is still the man in charge despite constant rumours that he is heading out the door.

But there has still been no announcement from the club, so how close is Sarri to becoming the next Chelsea manager?

As far as Napoli is concerned, Sarri has already been replaced by Carlo Ancelotti after the Italian refused a new deal with the Serie A club, however with his contract supposed to be until 2020.

That means, despite no longer being with the club, there is still an €8m release clause in place that the Blues would still have to pay to make sure that he becomes the man in charge at Stamford Bridge.

While the deal with Sarri himself seems to be done, the negotiations with the Italian club seem to be what is holding the deal up on that end.

Of course, there is still Conte himself in which there is an issue. The Chelsea boss still has a year left on his current contract and has made it clear that he will not be walking away from the role, which means the Blues will have to sack him.

That means compensation for him and the members of staff that may go with him, and it is expected to be around £9m they would need to shell out.

With those negotiations still ongoing, the club cannot announce a new head coach.

While everything that seems to be getting closer, the deals are not over the line just yet and Conte remains head coach of Chelsea for now.
